Leadership’s Role in EHR Implementation

In this video, the role of leadership is discussed as it relates to a major project such as electronic health records (EHRs) implementation. Tim Carpenter, MSW, has experience with electronic health records implementations, shares his knowledge as well as gives webinars on this subject.

He discusses two main elements necessary for a project in EHR implementation: the steering committee and the project champion.

The steering committee includes all the major stakeholders of the project. The project champion promotes and advocates the benefits of the EHR implementation as well as gain staff and provider buy-in.

Lessons learned:

• Leadership is essential for successful EHR implementation
• Steering committee is the stakeholders for the project.
• Project champions cheer it on, promote and advocate its benefits.
