Willamette Dental Group’s Transformational Changes Includes Integrated EHRs

As the largest dental provider in the Pacific Northwest, Willamette Dental Group has committed to proactive approaches to remain the largest. And committing to technology is a component of this. Among these changes include better scheduling software that improves patient access, better workflow efficiencies that reduce patient visit time, and a new insurance system. The other significant change will be the implementation of an integrated electronic health records system throughout the 54 dental offices.

Implementation of the electronic health record happened in September 2012.

“CEO and President, Dr. Eugene Skourtes, says of the decision, “This is another significant investment in positioning the company for the future….EDRs are fundamental to improving care and making care delivery safer and more efficient” (2012).

The Willamette Dental Group is anticipating major positive benefits to both physicians and patients with their transformational changes. The visionary thinking and planning by a large company exhibits leadership that expects excellent returns on this large investment. Group practices with electronic health records are able to increase efficiency, reduce billing delays and understand business aspects more clearly.

Lessons learned:

• Be proactive in keeping up with technological changes in order to be competitive.
• Patients will be able to seek dental care throughout Willamette’s office with integrated EHRs, once implemented.
