Ensuring good support and negotiating with the vendor up front so that you can spend your time on patient care, rather than IT maintenance, is one of the best investments you can make. The contract should reflect your need for response to and resolution of issues, in a timely manner and with consequences if the vendor should not meet the stated goals.
As a last resort, your contract should allow you to gracefully exit the arrangement and transition to a new vendor.
